Lifespan Faith Development
Spiritual Pathways

Infants, Children and Youth
The Spiritual Pathways Program of the First Unitarian Church of Providence is committed to creating a nurturing community that facilitates a lifelong spiritual journey of learning, faith development and social action based on the mission of First Unitarian Church of Providence and the principles and purposes of Unitarian Universalism.

—Mission Statement, adopted 2/95, revised 5/04

Welcome to Spiritual Pathways — Lifespan Faith Development
Welcome to this congregation of children, youth and adults, all on paths of faith development, growth and learning. We gather in community to make connections to one another, to our shared values and to the living tradition of Unitarian Universalism that calls us to act toward justice and peace.

The congregation faces opportunities and challenges as we continue to reach toward a clear vision and mission. During this time of ministerial transition, the hope is that all will see themselves as teachers, mentors and guides, as well as learners, receivers and evolving beings. When we work for justice, worship, meet, sing, show hospitality, debate and make decisions, we are learning and teaching what it means to create and sustain a loving faith community.

We look forward to collaborating in service to First Unitarian in the coming year.

A Proud Tradition
Welcome to Spiritual Pathways, First Unitarian Church of Providence's religious education community for our children, from infancy through high school. We also sponsor an active campus ministry group for young adults.

The program is constantly evolving. We benefit from the input of the entire community, especially our children, youth, volunteer teachers and professional staff. Together, we seek to provide our children and youth a secure and nurturing environment in which to grow and begin spiritual exploration. Through the demolition of our old building and the creation of the new one, the retirement of our senior minister and a series of interim ministers, and the departure of our long-time musical director, the RE program has continued to offer a community in which all ages can experience respect, stability and growth. The Religious Education Committee works closely with, Mrs. Cathy Seggel, our Director of Religious Education, to plan and implement the curriculum. Cathy, assistants and RE Committee members work with our teachers and staff to implement and assess the program.

This year, our goals include providing continuity and sustaining the function of the core Spiritual Pathways program, continuing efforts to implement "safe congregation" and "right relations" standards, strengthening the role of religious education committee members as liaisons to volunteer teachers, collaborating with the Youth Music Director to enhance the music curriculum, facilitating opportunities for family connections beyond Sundays and further enhancing the resource library.

We recognize that through their involvement in a religious community, our children and youth can experience some of the most enduring relationships of their lifetime outside of those in their immediate families. Adults who share time in our programs find that they receive as much as they give while supporting the spiritual growth of our children and youth.

We welcome your participation and questions.
